Trojans Sweep Rams
Trinidad State used great pitching and timely power hitting to sweep CSU Fort Collins in a four game set at Central Park this past weekend. The Trojan pitchers dominated three of the four contests and in the one game that they struggled the hitters prevailed with some late fireworks.

Both games on Saturday were one sided affairs as the Trojans won 7-1 and 8-0. Ben Williams allowed only two hits in six strong innings of work in the first game picking up his second win in as many starts. Max Martinez went 2 for 3 and Hans Ask hit his first homerun of the season.
Game two was dominated by right hander Zac Wittmus. The freshman from Brighton surrendered only two hits and no runs in five innings work to improve his record to 2-1. The bottom of the Trojan lineup contributed five runs to the cause led by Brock Schiekeway’s 2 for 3 performance.

“We were solid in all four areas or aspects of the game,” Coach Scott Douglas said about day one. “We pitched to contact and made all the routine stuff defensively. We had lots of positive, productive at bat’s and aggressive smart base running. It was pretty solid all the way around.”
The first game on Sunday featured the only drama of the series. The teams traded the lead all the way through until CSU broke open a 6-6 tie with a three-run double in the seventh. The Trojans then loaded the bases and Brandon Vaughn cleared them with one swing of the bat to claim the 10-9 win. Joining Vaughn with a big day at the plate was Bryer Mueller who went 2-4 with a homerun and five RBI’s. Andres Alburjas picked up his first win with the Trojans in the game.
“In 11 games we have had to play from behind a few times and I like what I see,” praised Douglas. “Our guys believe they can come back. I'm sure that will prove valuable down the road. We had some good at-bats, got some guys on and got it back to the top of the order. Walk off wins are definitely more enjoyable when they go your way.”

TSJC kept the big bats out for the start of the final game of the series. Ask hit two more bombs and Vaughn hit his second of the day as the Trojans gave starter Eric Perry all the run support he would ever need. Perry did his part giving up only a pair of runs in four innings work as Trinidad went on to win 12-2.
“It is hard to sweep a series in college baseball,” Douglas said. “CSU has a good team and they are well coached and prepared. We had to play well to beat them. They will be solid again once they get going and playing more. We need to get ready for a good opponent in Luna. They have won some games as of late and always give us a tough time. It will be a good test for us and a chance to improve on some stuff. We have lots of things we could do better and more consistently and our guys are going at it the right way.”
The Trojans (8-3) will face Luna College for a four game series at Central Park with doubleheaders at 12:30 pm on both Friday and Saturday.
