Head Coach Scott Douglas

Coach Scott Douglas enters his twelfth year as the Head Coach of the TSJC baseball program. Coach Douglas has over 20 years of coaching experience at the Division I, III, NAIA, semi-pro, and professional levels.

Douglas played his junior college baseball at Waldorf College in Iowa and then Division I at Hardin-Simmons University in Texas. Douglas enjoyed a solid collegiate career which was highlighted by 206 career hits and only two errors in 222 chances his senior season. He signed his first professional contract in June of 1994 and collected his first professional hit off of former Atlanta Brave and Minnesota Twin Juan Berenguer.

After two seasons of independent professional baseball as a player, Douglas retired to become the third base coach and later managed in the independent pro ball league. He returned to college baseball as an assistant at the University of Northern Iowa and soon after finished his Masters Degree in Sports and Recreation Management from HSU.

2011 was the Trojans sixh straight winning season. Over that six year time period the Trojans amassed a 214-147-1 record. TSJC has also been a playoff team for all four years of the new four-team playoff format.

Coach Douglas and his wife Keri have two sons, 10 year old Kade and 7 year old Seth.

ASSISTANT COACH-bench coach

Colter Faverino

Now in his seventh season with the Trinidad State Junior College Trojan Baseball team, Faverino will continue his roll as the bench coach . A graduate of Bloomfield High School in Bloomfield, NM, Coach Faverino lettered in both football and baseball and was selected to first team all-district twice, all state, and was a starter in the North-South All Star Game.

He began his coaching career at Navajo Prep High School in Farmington, NM, as varsity assistant coach and was appointed JV coach at Bloomfield the following year. He was promoted to varsity assistant and pitching coach in 2003, and is also the founder of the Four Corners Rage, a Connie Mack baseball team in Farmington. His team earned a bid to the 2005 Connie Mack World Series. Colter and his wife Janet live in Trinidad, CO where Colter works for Hanover Compression and his wife Janet teaches kindergarten at Eckhart Elementary School.

"Colter is my right hand man," said Coach Douglas. "He no longer has to wear so many hats with the addition of Brandon. I’m glad that he only has to focus on the position player side of things."

ASSISTANT COACH-pitching/3rd base/recruiting coordinator

Brandon Stone

Coach Brandon Stone will begin his second season as Trinidad State’s pitching coach. In addition to handling the pitching staff, Stone will be the 3rd base coach, as well as be the recruiting coordinator for the Trojans.

This past summer Stone was the Manager for the Arvada Colts. The Colts amassed a 46-8 record, including a 30-3 conference mark. For the first time in team history the Colts captured both the league and region titles in the same season. The Colts also earned their 4th straight birth to the NBC World Series where they placed 12th.

Prior to his time with Trinidad State and with the Arvada Colts Stone was a Strength and Conditioning Coach at the University of Denver. In two years there, Stone helped produce 3 top 25 teams, 2 NCAA National Championships, 3 All-Americans, and numerous All-Conference Performers.

Stone played two years at Dawson Community College, one year at Utah Valley University, and finished his career at Southern Nazarene University. At Dawson, Stone was a part of back to back regional appearances. The Utah Valley squad notched the school record for wins, and at Southern Nazarene Stone was a part of a 27th national ranking, including a win over the University of Oklahoma.

Coach Stone completed his B.S. in Kinesiology and Psychology from Southern Nazarene University. Stone is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association. He has one son, Beau Asher (3) and resides in Trinidad.

ASSISTANT COACH-catchers/assistant recruiting coordinator

Mitch McGill

Mitch McGill enters his third year as an assistant coach with the TSJC baseball program.

Born and raised in Knoxville, Tennessee, his parents are David and Terry McGill. Coach McGill has one sister, Kendell, a former professional basketball player in the Dominican Republic.

McGill earned his bachelor’s degree in Sport Management and Physical Education from Virginia Intermont College in 2006.

Coach McGill was a catcher for the Cobras and earned Appalachian Athletic Conference All-Academic and Athletic Director honor roll accolades all four years. During the summers, he played in the Southern Collegiate Wooden Bat League. His most memorable baseball moment was homering in his first college at-bat.

For the past three years, Coach McGill has taught in the Physical Education Activity Program at the University of Tennessee while completing his Masters degree in Sport Studies. In addition, he helped guide the Gibbs High School baseball program to three consecutive Tennessee State playoff appearances as an assistant coach.

McGill has spent the past three summers working as an instructor and assisted with baseball operations for Cal Ripken Jr.’s Baseball Academy in Aberdeen, Maryland and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Mitch is married to Ellen McGill, the head volleyball coach at TSJC.
