Trojans battle conditions to win again

Facing extreme heat and tough overall playing conditions the Trinidad State golf team won their second straight tournament of the season in McCook, Nebraska this past weekend. Trinidad shot an amazing 294 on Thursday to jump out to a huge lead. They ended up with a 50 stroke victory over second place Eastern Wyoming. McCook was third followed by Northeastern and Lamar.

Despite shooting three strokes higher than last week Joe Apache claimed his second tournament title of the fall holding off teammate Kyle Roll by one stroke. TSJC’s Kaelen Gunderson and Josh Woodworth tied for third.

“McCook is by far the toughest golf course in the region,” commented Coach Rich Holden. “The first day, in 105 degree heat, our guys were only five over as a team. The 294 total is the best that a Trinidad team has ever played that course. I know they were disappointed when we shot 14 shot worse the next day, but all in all it was a good tournament.”

TSJC will continue fall play with a trip to La Junta on Thursday and then follow that up with a trip to Lamar on Friday.
