Trojans take two of three
Hoping to generate some momentum heading into the final big push of the season, the Trojans won two of three non-region contests this past week in Trinidad and Raton.
On Wednesday at Central Park, TSJC split with Dodge City dropping the first game 5-3 and winning the second 9-4. Loran Carosella was charged with the loss in the first game when Trinidad was unable to hold onto an early 2-0 lead. The Conquistadors scored four runs in the final two innings to claim the win. In the second game TSJC fell behind early but Kevin Hand came in and shut Dodge down. TSJC got the bats going late cruising to a 9-4 win.
On Thursday, the Trojans headed over the pass for a game against Luna Community College at Raton’s Gabriele Field. The Trojans jumped on the Riders’ early brining six runs across in the second inning. Trinidad added four more in the seventh to seal the 10-0 win. Joey Capistran went three shutout innings to record the victory.
“I was concerned about these three games after the emotional series in Lamar,” commented Trojan Coach Scott Douglas. “It is easy for a team to have a bit of a let down and get on a long losing streak. Game one against Dodge was a red flag because we didn't play real well defensively. That was our fifth loss in a row, our longest losing streak of the season.”
“Our number one goal each time out is to play as solid of a game as we can starting on the mound and defensively. We bounced back in game two after trailing 3-0 and have strung together some good baseball since then.”
“I'd rather be going into McCook with a couple of ‘W's than ‘L's. We’ll have our work cut out for us. I've said all along that McCook was tough, even when they were 0-14. They are as good if not better than I thought. We'll need to play good baseball from here on out and hope it equates to ‘W’s.”
The Trojans will head to McCook on Sunday and Monday for a four game series.
