2009 Trojans

After losing six sophomores from last year’s South Sub-Region Co-Championship team the 2009-10 Trojans will be looking to find a new identity.
Returning players Devon Manning, 6’1” guard from Pueblo Central, Terrance Hutchins, 5’6” point guard from Colorado Springs and 6’2” swing man Koree Ross from Denver will be joined by three outstanding transfer prospects to make up the sophomore leadership for this year’s Trojans.
Leading that group of transfers is Shane Burrell, (NCAA Division I Alabama A&M) whom at 6’7” and 275 pounds can run the floor like a guard yet will provide that strong  inside presence that the Trojans have lacked in recent years. Another Transfer of note is 6’4” 225 pound power forward Marqus Richards who was the second leading scorer for Marshalltown Community College last season. Rounding out the transfer class of 2009-10 is Devin Clark (CSU Pueblo) a 6’6” high energy, fairly local player who prepped at Pueblo South.
Cory Seinknecht, a shooting guard from Manitou Springs, and Cyrus Durahm 6’6” swing man from Aurora are two red shirt freshmen that also understand the Trojans System. Both of them will enter the mix for playing time as Trinidad State begins its 84th straight year of Division I Men’s Junior College Basketball competition.
As usual the Trojans feel like they did well in the very competitive off-season recruiting battle for 2009 high school graduates.  Coach Holden is always reluctant to single out any individuals among the new freshman class noting, “After doing this for so many years, it is difficult to know which freshman are going to step up and be college players. I will tell you this; our freshman guards have big time potential.”
“We have reached three different team goals in the past three years, but have not been able to put all of our goals together in one season.”
With a lot of hard work and emphasis on team play, Coach Holden believes that this team is talented enough to win 20, win a South Sub region title and do well in the Region IX tournament.
“Those are the goals that we will be chasing this year.”
The season gets underway on November 3 against perennial Region IX power Eastern Wyoming.
