Trojans Open with Win
TSJC opened the 2010-2011 basketball season on Tuesday night in front of a large and often very loud Scott Gym crowd with a rousing victory over Colby Community College.
The Trojans, under first year Head Coach Mike Folda, jumped out to an early lead sparked by the guard play of sophomore Josh Brown. The Trojans briefly fell behind in the second half but quickly regained the lead by turning up the defensive pressure. Repeated steals by Jahmall Fountain and Justin Lindsey along with Ryan Gesiakowski’s hot hand from behind the 3-point line put TSJC up to stay. Trinidad won by a final of 73-67.
Coach Folda played most of his roster throughout the contest and had very balanced scoring led by Gesiakowski’s 16. Brown had 13, Lindsey had 11 and Fountain finished with 10.
“I’m very proud of the way the team competed out there,” commented Coach Folda. “It wasn’t perfect; we have plenty of things we need to improve on. For the first night out I thought our guys played hard. If we can continue to have effort like that we have a chance to be a pretty solid team.”
The Trojans will host the annual TSJC Classic this weekend with Otero, Adams State JV and Fort Carson competing.
