Head Coach Aaron Miller
Spring classes at Trinidad State Junior College will be starting up in mid-January and with snow covering much of the grass on campus soccer is the last thing on everyone’s minds, everyone except new Soccer Coach Aaron Miller. Coach Miller has just seven short months to build not one, but two, complete teams from scratch as the Trojans get ready to take the field for Region IX play this fall.
Miller, a New Hampshire native whose father has been a college athletic director for many years, brings a great wealth of soccer experience as well as a family history in college sports with him as he starts recruiting and building a schedule.
A former collegiate player, Miller graduated with dual Bachelor of Arts degrees in Exercise Science and Religious studies from Kansas Wesleyan University. He has been working in and around soccer and college sports ever since.
Prior to college he had spent most of his life playing sports, and, in recent years pursued bringing it to others, be it as a successful college-level coach, trainer of the AC United Soccer Club Teams, athletic camp director, or Lead Instructor for a New England Soccer Camp.
His first college level experience was as an Assistant Men’s Soccer coach at Shasta College, in Redding, California. He was then promoted to become the Head Women’s Soccer Coach. A full time role at Lassen Community College moved him to Susanville, California where he went on to rebuild their once successful program. After just four seasons in coaching, 23 of his student-athletes have received Golden Valley All Conference nominations. Additionally, 14 students have progressed to the 4-year university level on scholarship.
During spring and summer months Coach Miller can be found directing a coaching staff for several youth soccer camps ages 5-18 throughout New England and California. He is also a lead instructor in the Soccer School at Brewster Academy.
Recently, he has assisted his father taking a role in athletic administration at Lakes Region Community College.
“My success in coaching stems primarily from expanding the student-athletes' recognition of "educational success' through athletics’ - a motto I adopted many years ago,” commented Coach Miller. “Demonstrating athletic and educational success during my time as a student-athlete, and having served in several leadership positions in numerous extracurricular activities at Kansas Wesleyan University, I have learned that athletics helps create the whole person. I will bring well-rounded individuals to serve the Trinidad community, act as professionals by being competitive on the field and enhancing the local soccer community through youth camps, and contributing to the overall culture of academics on campus. I am very excited to be a part of the Trinidad community and want to thank the TSJC coaching staff, Rich Holden and his family, the selection committee and President Felix for welcoming me on campus to lead the soccer program in the Fall 2012 season.”
TSJC Athletic Director Rich Holden praised Miller for his hard work coming into his new position. “We feel extremely fortunate to have a young man with Aaron’s experience to be joining our athletic team. I have been very impressed with his knowledge, not only of the game of soccer, but in regards to developing a program that will fit with Trinidad State and the Trinidad community. Aaron has hit the ground running and is asking all the right questions.”
