Lady Trojans sign six

The return season of women’s basketball has come to a close and Trinidad State Head Coach and Athletic Director Rich Holden has been busily preparing for the 2011 season. He recently announced the signing of five high school seniors and one transfer for next year’s squad.

Justine Gallegos from Trinidad will continue her basketball career at TSJC next year. The 5’4 guard was the Tri-Peaks Player of the Year while leading Trinidad High School to the sweet 16 in 3A last year. She averaged almost ten points a game and was one of the leading rebounders on the team.

From Weld Central High School in Keensburg comes 5’6 Lindsey Pippin. Pippin averaged over 12 points a game to lead the Rebels in scoring in the tough 3A Patriot league. Lindsey’s older sister Breann was an Academic All-American in 2002 while playing volleyball at TSJC.

Transferring in from Eastern Arizona College is Jackie Becker. Becker is a 5’9 guard from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She prepped at Putnam City High School which is in the Oklahoma City Metro conference, considered to be one of the toughest 6A conferences in the state. She averaged 11 points a game as well as four assists. She is a very versatile player that could play at least three positions on the floor.

Three girls signed from schools in the 5a Colorado Springs Metro League. From Liberty High is 5’10 forward Kylee Crumley. She averaged almost ten points a game to lead the Lancers. From Doherty High is 5’9 guard Alex Holly who was one of the leading rebounders for the Spartans and from Pine Creek is 5’10 Stephanie Knowels. Knowels averaged over six points a game for the Eagles.

“I feel that we are off to a great start,” commented Coach Holden. “Colorado Springs is a hot bed for Women’s Basketball talent and one of my first goals was to do hit it hard. I believe that all of our signees are quality players and more importantly quality people.”
